Yuliya Chernyshova is a professional fine artist whose work is deeply inspired by the movement of water and the ever-changing play of light.
Born in Russia, she developed a passion for art early in life, graduating from the School of Fine Arts at just 11 years old. She later moved to Canada, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Montreal. However, her true calling lay in the fine arts, and over fifteen years ago, she made the decision to fully dedicate herself to her artistic career.
Growing up by the Black Sea, Yuliya spent years observing the rhythm of the waves, the subtle shifts in water’s color, and the way light transforms the sea’s surface. This deep connection to the water remains the driving force behind her work.
My fascination with water—its movement, textures, and colors—guides my artistic process. In every painting, I strive to understand the anatomy of waves and how light interacts with them.
Yuliya works in oils, watercolors, and soft pastels, with pastels being her preferred medium. She fell in love with their texture and the way pigment particles reflect light, a passion she deepened during a year spent by the sea in France, studying and refining her technique.
For many years, Yuliya was a co-owner of Galerie Old Chelsea, where she played an active role in curating exhibitions and supporting fellow artists. She has participated in numerous art exhibitions across Sherbrooke, Magog, Ottawa, and Gatineau, showcasing her evocative seascapes to a wide audience.
Currently based in Chelsea, Yuliya continues to explore the beauty of the seascape world through her art, capturing fleeting moments of light and movement with a masterful touch.
